Long story short I have started fresh after erasing and reformatting the SD card but 2 problems exist. I can access the media going via upnp but when adding a source it does not allow me to select the type of content and scanning to the library does not work. I have spent hours trying to sort this out, do you think the SD card is the issue or has something changed with updated versions of Kodi? Next I will add some media to the SD card and see if that helps. This is most likely caused by the fact that your Seagate can only support the insecure SMB1 protocol that has been blocked in the last update.
You could try to edit. I see. Could anyone elaborate on how I modify that file, I know just about enough to get by and I am living in Australia so I will be trying it tomorrow when most people are asleep. I knew I forgot a step, I may be wrong a full reboot may actually be required to pick up the new smb client configuration.
I think restart should be good enough as it just which Parameter Kodi uses with the library. But I guess we will see. Thanks guys, worked a treat and it solved issue 2 at the same time. Only sudo systemctl restart mediacenter was required afterwards.
Is there a security issue with using the Seagate as my media source? I have changed default passwords on both RPi but is there anything else I should be doing?
As long as you are not forwarding ports to the internet, and have your wifi protected, there should be no issue with using the Seagate. Everything is default since fresh install yesterday. I use Yatse but only when connected on Wifi in the advanced settings. Sad face loop. I believe that should do it.
Thanks Tom. Hi, I knew I forgot a step, I may be wrong a full reboot may actually be required to pick up the new smb client configuration. Hi, Glad to hear its working and good to know only a restart of kodi is required.A share is a network volume that you can configure to store and share data. My Mac can see it no problem so it's not a device problem. It was fine from my Windows 10 PC until the update that went in the last few weeks. It is a Windows 10 issue. Thank you for contacting Seagate Support. I'm sorry for the inconvenience this is causing for you. I'd be glad to assist you. I believe the reason Windows 10 is not seeing the GoFlex Home is probably because of an update that Microsoft pushed out recently that changed the way Windows 10 detects network devices.
Microsoft created this protocol and it was used for providing shared access to files, folders, printers, serial ports, and basically anything you wanted to share. This used to be the standard protocol on all previous versions of the Windows operating system.
From my understanding, Microsoft did this to address some security flaws in the SMBv1 protocol. The only thing we can point you toward is this 3rd party knowledge base support article on how to enable SMBv1.
This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. Microsoft apparently has a workaround which does not require enabling SMBv1, for those who rely on the ability to 'browse' the network. This legacy protocol is long deprecated, doesn't route, and has limited security. Because the service cannot function without SMBv1, it is removed at the same time.
However, if you still have to use the Explorer Network in home and small business workgroup environments to locate Windows-based computers, you can follow these steps on your Windows-based computers that no longer use SMBv1: Start the "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication" services, and then set them to Automatic Delayed Start.
When you open Explorer Network, enable network discovery when you are prompted. All Windows devices within that subnet that have these settings will now appear in Network for browsing. Contact your other vendors and manufacturers if their devices still don't appear in this browse list after the Windows devices appear.
It is possible they have this protocol disabled or that they support only SMBv1.This has been an issue that's been ringing my bell for a while, and I need help. It can be pinged, it can be seen on a arp -a command, and there are no stale credentials in the Credential Manager. Furthermore I can use my domain account on other machines and view the NAS correctly, but cannot on this machine, which is my daily driver. Has anyone seen this issue and be able to correct it?

No one here is trying to put you down or make you feel bad, but it is clear some of your posts are above what you can personally handle, getting someone to guide or assist you is not a bad thing and you will learn more than you can on a forum. You just asked - the answer is because I miss her dearly, she was my pet for over 15 years You have a Windows file server.
Why are looking to put files on a NAS instead of the file server? I pinged by IP and it is good, the shared name is not. The shared name could not be pinged. I was thinking it could be a DNS issue but don't know where to start.
Can you clear the saved credentials from credential manager? Also do you have a limit of how many users you will connect to the NAS? None of the machines I tested are in sync with the NAS time wise, yet other machines worked and this one didn't. I appreciate all of your assistances on the matter and I can't believe this still isn't resolved yet :. Interesting that you say other computers can access the NAS but your computer cannot. Pushes me to believe it is on your local computer you use.
I am going to ask the obvious questions here to try and knock out some small things. Have you made sure to double check your own DNS settings? If other computers are able to see and connect to the NAS using the hostname of the device then the DNS is working properly for those computers.
Maybe yours is having issues however. I'm still attempting to figure this out, as I'm trying to scavenge old DNS records and it's still not working. Another update here, still no dice.
What is going on? Have you updated the firmware on the Seagate NAS? On my professional laptop, I was in a directory where the shortcut routed itself to the NAS in question. It literally stated that because SMB 1. For my own curiosity, I installed the SMB 1. I hope this pops up in a Google search years from now with someone having an issue as convoluted as mine, and this pops up as the solution.
